Melrose Abbey

After seeing Caerlaverock, we headed east from Dumfries into the Scottish Borders. Another beautiful drive, but quite different from the drive up into Skye. This area resembles the English countryside a bit more, with rolling green hills and long hedges. We arrived at the abbey as most of the crowds had already left, so we had it mostly to ourselves!
The abbey is a beautiful shade of pink and is partially ruined but in such wonderful shape! It was built back in the 1100’s as the first Cistercian abbey in Scotland, and it has some very ornate elements that I wished I had even more time to explore. We got our audio guides and got to admiring the place.

The views of Melrose town and the surrounding countryside from the top of the abbey were my favorite!
